Fashion Photography
Fashion Photography is the area of photography that concentrates on taking pictures of clothing or accessories to be published in fashion magazines, advertisements or sent around different designers.
Baron Adolphe de Meyer is credited as the first fashion photographer. In 1913, Meyer took the first fashion photographs for Vogue.
An image is a Portrait when it is a Fashion photograph when the photo is not soley on the clothes that the model is wearing that it is about the model also.
The degree i think a photo should be malipulated to go into a fashion magazine should be very miniscule as the focus should be on the clothes or accessories, not the model.
I don't beleive there is a big clash between commerical side of fashion photography and or the creative side.

Portraiture.
Portraiture phtogrpahy has changed dramatically, it has gone from being about the main focus of the person in front of the camera to being about the person behind the camera.
In 1839, a year after the first photo containing a human being was made, photography pioneer Robert Cornelius made the first ever portrait of a human being. The Daily recently published an interesting piece on Cornelius’ story:
Diane Arbus used photography to exploit people to make them seem as they were revealing there inner self as there were revealing what they could be feeling through there eyes and body language.
